Top 5 Dog Destinations in the Lake District
We are lucky enough to call the Lake District our home and adventure playground. Of course we’re a little bias, but we really do believe it’s one of the best doggy destinations in the UK. Just make sure you bring a waterproof. When it rains here, it really rains.
KESWICK: It often feels like humans are outnumbered by our four legged friends, which is of course just as we like it! Most stores, cafes and pubs are dog friendly. After a big walk a visit to The Dog & Gun is a must. If you’re lucky enough to get a pew in front of the fire. Kick back and order the famous Goulash accompanied by a local cask ale or two. It will not disappoint.
TARN HOW: This is a perfect walk for families, and parking facilities are close by. The views are magnificent. It’s a short circular walk of 2 miles, which takes about an hour. There are a number of options to extend the walk.
GLENRIDDING to HOWTOWN: A stunning walk you will walk alongside Ullswater (Note, Lakes are generally referred to as Waters or Meres in the Lake District) and Patterdale Village. This is a 3-4 hour trek, and the terrain is rocky in places. You can return to Glenridding via the Ullswater Steamboat.
KENDAL CASTLE: The ruins of an early 13th-century castle overlooking the River Kent. The castle is often overlooked by tourists, it’s a great dog walk with views stretching across the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Afterwards walk to Farrers old fashioned tea room, which is of course dog friendly. Baba Ganoush cafe & takeaway is also great for a warming soup.
RED SCREES, KIRKSTONE PASS: A short, yet challenging walk of around 45 mins, with a steep ascent 1000 feet. The views at the summit are well worth the slog up. Thankfully the Kirkstone Inn, is located at the bottom for a well deserved post-walk pint.
